The plant is indigenous to India and is found in following countries:- Australia China India Kenya Pakistan Spain Yugoslavia Ephedra is abundant in the drier regions of temperate and alpine Himalayas at altitude of 7000 – 14,000 ft. It occurs mainly in China, Pakistan, North West parts of India, Australia, Kenya, Spain and Yogoslavia. It is called as Ma-Huang where ‘Ma’ represents astringent taste and Huang denotes colour of drug which is yellow. It is generally found on sandy seashores and in temperate climates of both hemispheres.
