Chemical Constituents

Major
Major chemical constituents responsible for physicochemical and therapeutic action of the herb are :- Matricaria Volatile oil consisting of azulene, sesquiterpenes, sesquiterpene alcohols, paraffin hydrocarbons, methoxycournarin, furfural, and a fatty acid Matricaria contains 0.3-0.5 per cent of a volatile oil consisting of azulene, sesquiterpenes, sesquiterpene alcohols, paraffin hydrocarbons, methoxycournarin, furfural, and a fatty acid. The volatile oil is a thick fluid freely soluble in alcohol and is blue in colour due to the presence of azulene.
