The plant is indigenous to India and is found in following countries: - Burma India Malaya Shri Lanka In India it is found in sub-Himalayan track up to an altitude of 1000 meter and in Maharashtra province.

Chemical Constituents

Major chemical constituents responsible for physicochemical and therapeutic action of the herb are :- Vasicine Vasicinon 6-hydroxy vasicine Vasaka leaves contain quinazoline derivatives viz. Vasicine, vasicinon and 6-hydroxy vasicine. Vasicin is identical with piganin isolated from Piganum harmela. Vasicine is auto-oxidisable and forms vasicinon, which contians ketonic group at 8 position.
