| The plant is indigenous to Europe and is found in following countries:-
Caucasus
Central Europe
India
Siberia
Southern Sweden
The blackcurrant was probably at home only in northern Central Europe that was confirmed by fossil finds in Southern Sweden. From here its distribution extended across the Caucasus, Siberia and the Himalayas to Manchuria. The shrub was then introduced into Central and South-East Europe. In Southern Europe it grows only as a cultivated plant.
