Bed-wetting, also known as enuresis, is the involuntary act of urinating in bed, especially at night while sleeping. Bed-wetting occurs commonly in childhood and in old age, but also can happen in early-adulthood. Bed-wetting can be a very difficult and embarrassing problem for children.
This is mainly due to a maturational delay in the development of bladder musculature and its ability to withstand the pressure of a large urine volume.

| What
are the causes, incidence and risk factors of
Bed-Wetting ? |
|
Bed-wetting in children age 5 and younger is most commonly caused by the size of the bladder. It is simply too small to hold enough urine to make it through the night. This type of bed-wetting is usually outgrown. Bed-wetting can also be caused by emotional stresses (moving to a new house, parental separation or a new baby sibling), sleeping too soundly, drinking too much before bed, urinary tract infections, obstructions in the urinary tract, spinal disorders, food allergies and diabetes.

|
The tests include:
1.A physical examination that may be performed to rule out physical causes.
2.A urinalysis is indicated to rule out infection or diabetes.
3.X-rays of the kidneys and bladders and more invasive studies are not needed unless there is reason to suspect some other problems.
