| CULTIVATION |
|
The trees are often grown in coppices, which afford winter shade for stock on mountain grazing without appearing to injure the grass beneath, and can be cut down from poles every nine or ten years. The catkins are formed in the autumn and the flowers appear in early spring, before the leaves are fully out.
