The plant is indigenous to Turkestan
This species grows in enormous quantities in the north-eastern districts of the province of Turkestan. It is also found in various place in India. Wormseed has long been used as an anthelmintic and it was employed in Italy under the name of semenzina with a belief that it consisted of small seeds. The word semenzina is derived the name semen cirm, by which the drug is often known semen contra.
