Volatile oil of this drug contains anisalclehyde, sesquiterpene alcohols, d-a-thujone, x-pinene and phenolic compounds and in small proportion b-cymene, d-limonene, terpinolene, a-piviene, a-thujone, a-phellandrene, a-terpineol, bornyl acetate and methyl chavicol. Gum is a composition of arabinose with small amounts of xylose and galactose and it also contains oxidizing and diastatic enzymes. The highly brittle resin is soluble in various organic solvents and softens between 65-700C and melts between 70-750C. Indian olibanum contains P-boswellic acid in resin portion.
