How to take care of eyes

Our eyes are the most precious organ of our body. It is through it that we look at the beautiful world created by the GOD. With out it we would be in the world of darkness and without the colors of the life.
Your eyes might look great and your eyesight might be fine, but that doesn’t necessarily mean your eyes are healthy. Some sight-threatening conditions, such as glaucoma, have no symptoms and could cause you to lose up to 40 per cent of your sight before you notice a difference.

Now the problem is that how can we take care of such precious eyes and prevent them from being damaged? This question is very common now a days as the tehnological advancement like computers and T.V. have nearly affected the eyes of 90% of the population all around the world!

Some simple steps of protecting our eyes from being damaged:
1. Protect your eyes from the ultra violet rays from the sunrays. You can do this by developing a habit of wearing sunglasses while going out in sun.
2. Take breaks while working on the computer. Just leave your desk after you have worked for an hour or so on computer and take a few strides to say hello to your co worker or just go and get a glass of water for yourself. This will not only improve your health but also gives rest to your eyes.
3. If you wear contact lenses be sure to remove and replace it as directed by the physician
4. Eat foods which are rich in antioxidants such as fruits and vegetables. Researches reveal that Omega-3 fatty acids help in improving dry eye syndrome
5. Avoid smoking as it can double the risk of developing age-related macular degeneration,
6. Wear safety glasses at all times when you are working around the house doing tasks such as hammering, sawing, sanding, cutting, etc. Wear specially-designed goggles when welding, braising, etc. Wear safety glasses even when you are working with cement, mortar, paint, etc., to help keep splashes of chemicals out of your eyes.
7. Have your work place well illuminated. Working or reading with less light may damage your vision as you will have to give more stress on your eyes.
Some exercises which may help in improving your vision
• Take a pen or pencil and sit at ease. Place it near your nose just between your eyes. Gaze at it for a few minutes. Slowly move your hand holding the pencil away from the eyes till it is at an arm distance from the eyes. Hold it at that position for few minutes. Slowly bring your hand to the former position. Repeat this for 5 times for the maximum result.
• At your free time rotate your eyeballs in the clockwise and anti clock wise direction. Repeat this for 5 times. This will not only help you to relax the tension of your eyes and muscles around them but also help in strengthening your eye muscles and improve your eye sight.
• Regular practicing of Trataka (a Kriya from yoga) will help in activating the tear glands, purify the visual system, promotes good concentration and cures all kind of eye defects. All you have to do for this is to sit with an erect spine and gaze continuously at the flame lit at the same height of the eyes without winking the eyelids for 2-3 minutes, ignoring the irritation and watering of eyes. Start this with 10 seconds and slowly increase the time till you reach 3 minutes in 2 months. Do not forget to relax your eyes after doing this kriya.
Some herbs which help in improving the vision
• Bilberry-It protects veins and arteries in the eye, and helps with night vision.
• Aspalathus- A south African herb also know as rooibos can promote eye health as well as improve immune function
• Mahonia Grape Extract- protects the eyes from UV rays and sun damage.

  3. I am consistently stunned by the fact that in a world as brilliant and intellectual as ours, that so few people seem to pay attention to valuable choices which are readily available to them to heighten their physical well being. It seems that a majority of people are more interested in a band aid in the form of a Dr. visit and precriptions than in handling their own health process, and doing so in a way that is natural, predictable, and sustainable. That is what makes me appreciate campaigns like yours to educate and prompt individuals to activity. I hope that through these efforts, and others, that awareness increases speedily and the population at large comes back to a mind-set of personal health that doesn’t depend on medical specialists and drugs.
